News

...or is it? I think so! The latest (ish) videos, the odd review, exciting new bands, what's being released, what we're listening to, that good thing off of the telly the other night and who said what about whom. It all might possibly be on this page... by the way, we've got a bit of a new look. Did you notice? Same old shit, just ever so slightly different. Why not send us some news? Carry on...

Annie Lennox Smoothie
17.07.2009

Add several seasoned Annie Lennox solo classics to a blender and throw in a couple of duds for good measure, too. Whizz it about for say... 30 seconds, pour into a You Tube link and chill. Viola!

P.S.
Is this what it sounds like in Annie Lennox's head all the time? Woo-ooh! A-ah.

Fash-inating!

Here's a brand-spanking new collaboration that Martina from Dragonette did with Martin Solveig under the guidance of the one and only Mr Jean Paul Gaultier. The video is classic old-school musical, shot in the massive Gaultier mansion in Paris and features the man himself. They're going to give this track away free I believe... smashing.

I Am Tired Of This Business...
26.06.2009

A pop icon died today (well, yesterday USA time). He was called Michael Jackson. He hadn't released any really good music since the early 1990s and he was a complete fruit cake but he's got the entire world in a right old flap today... When I think of Michael Jackson, I think of being a kid; my cousin Kim's bedroom adorned with posters, bubblegum cards, scarves, mirrors, album covers and 'Smash Hits' clippings; Elasoplasts on fingertips; a sequined glove; jokes about plastic noses; Bubbles the chimp; skin tinting; that red leather jacket; the oxygen tank; the 'anti-gravity lean' and the 'moon walk'; the paedophile accusations; the hilarity of Jarvis Cocker showing Jacko his arse at The Brits; the dangling of babies from windows; and sometimes - sometimes - I remember his music. So, we repeat, Michael Jackson is dead. His music is not. The crowd around the 'J' section in HMV today is testament to that. And whilst we drown in the 24 hour circus-like media coverage which has pushed something like 27 of his 10 albums back in the UK chart, let's stick this illegal mp3 on our iPods and decide for ourselves if Michael Jackson was much cop or not. Who's bad?

P.S. A big kiss to my girl Farrah. Goodnight, Angel. x

Pop Dictionary

Darncer; Of the noun, darnce. A person who undertakes darnce. A person who partakes of the moving of their limbs, traditionally the arms and legs, in time with music, which is usually fast. Slow or mid-tempo music can also be darnced too (see Girls Aloud's 2008-9 single releases) but generally fast music is best for this activity.

...Sophie's new make-up advert single with Freemasons is out in tomorrow. Woo.

Those were the days...

Aqua are back! Back!! Back!!! Etc. Yes, they're turning back time - my oh my! Thankfully, it's not just their forthcoming 'Greatest Hits' artwork that's pretty good (a little bit Army Of Lovers, even!), as their new single seems to be ticking my box today, too. It's called 'Back In The 80s' and name-checks Bananarama, 'Dynasty' and 7Up. Here's a pretty rubbish quality 'web rip' if you haven't heard it yet. It's not clear if the single is getting a release in the UK but the album should do, hopefully. It's scheduled to include all their singles, a few of which didn't actually come out in the UK, as well as two more new songs; 'My Mama Said...' and 'Live Fast - Die Young'. That's 19 tracks in total. Scream! Fansite.

Due to popular demand (thanks both of you!), The International House Of Pussy (what a bloody stupid name, etc.) has been dragged back from the brink of oblivion, kicking and screaming "please kill me!", to bring you our usual brand of infrequent updates on the stuff Pop Justice and 137 other pop blogs told you 2 days ago, plus some old mp3s of the illegal variety, unearthed from my cavernous music collection, that the world thought were lost forever. Marvel at our splendiferous, triumphant come back! Gasp at our brand new look (er, there isn't one)! Spend 30 seconds looking for something to read and then give up! Ladies, gentlemen, transgendered individuals and robots from the future... we're back! So, yeah...

The Girl And The Robot And The Video
24.05.2009

Here is a video for the spectacular (ie. not very) single release (ie. barely) of 'The Girl And The Robot' by Röyksopp Featuring Robyn (ie. literally).

You can wait like a fool until June 15th to purchase mp3/wma/m4a files from the internet masquerading as a single package or the DJ-friendly (ie. everybody else unfriendly) 12" vinyl, or you can rewind back to last week when all 13 remixes were put on the internet for free. That is, after you've finished self-harming because CD SINGLES ARE DEAD and it's the end of the universe because of that fact (ie. true!).
