...or is it? I think so! The latest(ish) videos, the odd review, exciting new bands, what's being released, what we're listening to, that good thing off of the telly the other night and who said what about whom. It all might possibly be on this page... by the way, we've got a bit of a new look. Did you notice? Same old shit, just ever so slightly different. Why not send us some news? Carry on...

The New Sugababe
25.07.2007I can exclusively reveal that Rihanna, she who brought the floods with her evil raindance anthem and number one smasheroonie, 'Umbrella', has replaced Keisha in Sugababes. Our undercover photographer caught this candid shot earlier today...
You heard it here first.

...freaky. It's like a 'Sledgehammer' for the noughties. 'Buttons' is on Sia's new album, 'Some People Have Real Problems', which is due out in September. Head over to herSpace for the chance to draw the album cover for her.

Here is a photo for you to look at. It's Roisin Murphy, experiencing some serious knitwear malfunction, whilst having a bit of scran and a mug of tea in a greasy spoon cafe. It's the photo that the new album, 'Overpowered', will have on the front. Now, let's just hope this album is better than her last one which was, well, a bit strange wasn't it?

...like me?". Not my words, but the words of pop-vixen Shirley Manson on the B-side to the new Garbage single, 'Tell Me Where It Hurts', which is out now. If you thought Garbage were over, through, passed their sell by date, you were WRONG. Wherein you may, like us, feel that some of their post-'Version 2.0' material has been a little over-produced and spent too long in the musical oven, it's refreshing to hear the results of a quick afternoon session in the studio. This sounds like it was knocked out in 20 minutes flat and it's all the better for it. 'Betcha' reinvents the Pussyflaps Trolls 'Don't Cha' for 2007 and it should be filed along side other Garbage masterpieces 'Subhuman', 'Trip My Wire' and 'Lick The Pavement'. Scuzzy, dirrrty, punk pop... love it.

Rolls of carpet! Dancing! With glamorous lady legs! It's the next single by Luciana... well, Martijn Ten Velden Featuring Luciana, actually. It's out in August and she's cool as fuck. Her 'solo' album will be out later this year, pulling together her collaborations with Super Mal, Bodyrox and Michael Gray (as Portobella), plus a few new tunes of her own. She's also written a track for Kylie apparently... but who hasn't? mySpace.
The Morning Papers
15.07.2007
'Planet Earth' is the new album from Prince. In a world first, he has released it FREE inside today's 'Mail On Sunday', making headlines around the world. Never before has an artist challenged the big bad music industry in such a bold and dramatic fashion. And it's really pissed off his record label! 'Planet Earth' features ten great new tracks, including the 'single', 'Guitar', and the album will not go on general sale in the UK. Yep, the album's official UK release is only inside today's 'Mail On Sunday' and the CD will not be available in the rest of the world until July 24.
The facts: Free music is great; More people than ever will have the new Prince CD in their homes today than ever; Artists make more money performing live than they do selling CDs; Record companies are shitting themselves as they become less and less important as the 'middle man'. So, go and get it at your local newsagent, supermarket or HMV... Oh, and consider the album's eco-friendly, environmentalist anthem of a title track as you hit play...
"Did we care for the water and the fragile atmosphere?"
Well, Mr Prince, why didn't you just release your new album as a free digital download if you're so concerned with our beloved planet? Would've saved all that plastic and paper, wouldn't it? Ever so slightly hypocritical, me thinks. But I digress. It's a very good album and an interesting event on planet pop... whatever next?

And so the reunion is on! Certainly the worst kept secret in pop, it was nice to finally have it officially confirmed at last... Spice Girls are back! Highlights from the press conference yesterday for me included Victoria's new air bags, Geri's accident with a pair of Laura Ashley curtains and when Emma stated she was more than prepared to rip the kid out of her early so she could rehearse in time for the tour* (*I made the last one up). It was a nice touch to see all the girls wearing their infamous Spice rings, the one's Geri bought for each girl just before they got signed to Virgin, when they were poor, a bit like most of them probably are now. Anyhoo, we can look forward to a 'new' track or two, a best of collection ('Spice Up Your Life - Greatest Hits', according to this) and a 25 date Worldwide Tour throughout November 2007 - January 2008. After that... who knows? Register for the chance to purchase tickets here. Areeiiiiba!
Scoop
11.06.2007
Now on it's third outing, the latest re-release of New Young Pony Club's 'Ice Cream' comes in a delicious new wrapper! See! Above! Other flavours across the range include a 7" picture disc, a new B-side called 'Head In My Voice' and some nice remixes from hot new things Herve and Popular Computer. Sweet... Oh, and it's out July 2nd - find your own damn pre-order link! And, and, AND... the Ponies have just remixed Amy Winehouse's new single, 'Tears Dry On Their Own', which is out 'soon'.
Overdressed
10.06.2007
Roisin Murphy catches the bus, eats a bag of chips, empties her washing machine and has a shit, all dressed in something she borrowed from Grace Jones' 1985 wardrobe. The single is out on July 2nd or July 9th, depending on who you believe. Although, quite possibly it could be both in this new age of digital versus physical releases. You could always ask her...
Smashed Hits
31.05.2007Oooh look, it's the new M.I.A. single, 'Boyz'! What a nice thing to receive in the post today. God bless Royal Mail....

12.05.2007
Poor Scooch. We so wanted to to call this piece 'Nil Point!' but we did get a couple of points towards the end so we couldn't. We're the scum of Europe once again and haven't got a country to call our friend... sigh. We should be used to the shame by now. For the record, we thought this entry was alright in a throwaway slutty girl band sort've way. I don't know what we're gonna do when Sir Terry of Wogan kicks the bucket because he's the only thing worth watching on the endurance test that is 'The Eurovision Song Contest'. I know you're all dying to know what our top 5 UK Eurovision entries of all time are so we made a note of them during the more boring moments of the contest...
1 GINA G Ooh Ahh... Just A Little Bit (1996)
2 SONIA Better The Devil You Know (1993)
3 BUCKS FIZZ Making Your Mind Up (1981)
4 SANDIE SHAW Puppet On A String (1967)
5 SAMANTHA JANUS A Message To Your Heart (1991)
Oh! And it was nice to see Ms Jay Aston off of Bucks Fizz releasing balls with Fern Cotton and Michael Ball on the National Lottery programme 5 minutes before the contest. She was plugging this.
Get around (the shops)
03.05.2007
Ok, so, Dragonette released their debut single, 'I Get Around', this week. It's currently languishing around the lower top 75 (69 anyone?). It's just not good enough! Everybody - buy more copies! Physical plastic releases, including a tasty etched and signed orange vinyl 7", an exciting 12" picture disc and a CD single in one of those posh new cases with the rounded edges, can be bought here. Robots and people from the future can download a digital copy here (we strongly favour the stonking iTunes exclusive 'Loose Cannons Dirty Toilet Sex Dub Mix'). You can watch the saucy video here and kill 10 minutes at boring old work browsing the Dragonette Myspace here. Furthermore...
Competition Time!
We've literally gone competition mad this month (two in as many weeks!) so let's keep the madness going with another slightly amazing free give away! We have a copy of the new Dragonette single (out now!) and album (not out now - try July people!), plus some badges and one of those Oyster card wallets as seen on Pop!Justice and as banned by the London Underground, making them even more coveted. Of course, they're rather pointless to those of us outside of the London area but they can be used to house your bus pass, library card or video shop membership card (if video shops still exist - what do I know?). To receive this bundle of Dragonette swag, just send us an email telling us how you 'get around' (ie. car, bike, bus, etc.).
The Nixey League
02.05.2007
We were sent a link to the creepy new Sarah Nixey video for 'The Black Hit Of Space' (originally by pre-Joanne & Susanne Human League) last night but we feel asleep on the couch and forgot to stick it on the news page... but here it is for you now! Of course, every other blog has jumped on it in the meantime so it's probably old news! We're very good at doing old news here, aren't we? Anyway, let's all watch the Hammer Horror inspired video (again)... Oh, the single is out on the 9th of July on a nice thick 7" vinyl, as well as digitally, with some lovely bonus acoustic tracks to boot. Smashing. Get your Nix fix.
I Have A Video For You
01.05.2007This is To My Boy's new single, their third, which is called 'Model'. It's like a mash-up of Kaiser Chiefs and Klaxons and Daft Punk and a Fisher-Price toy. It's released on June 11th so do make a note of that, wont you? They're letting you have a mpfree in exchange for your email address over here. I think they're ruddy fantastic.
Video Is Here
To StayAt Last
29.04.2007Chungking release 'Love Is Here To Stay' digitally tomorrow, with the physical release the week after (apparently). They decided to put the video on the internet today, Sunday (the day before it's out!), to promote it. About ruddy time, etc. I'd provide links so you can buy the release but, er, I can't find any. Sort it out, someone? Or is this another amazing single/album to be lost in the void of a poor promotional campaign? Probably... website.
All the mixes are all the same...
24.04.2007
Don't even ask why it's not yet on iTunes, something to do with it being an Italian record label or summit, just be glad it's available at all! What are we raving on about? HRH Billie Ray Martin has finally (finally!) finished tinkering and fine tuning her new single 'Undisco Me' (previewed to her mailing list in 'unfinished demo' form a year ago) and released it on Rebirth Records this week. It's available to buy digitally over at Beatport, a site we'd never used before but it's actually very smart and clever and they even take scabby old Solo debit cards and everything.
There are a staggering 18 (EIGHTEEN!) remixes available which run the gamut of remixing styles, from the classic 'Original', 'Radio Edit', 'Extended' and 'Instrumental' versions, to those mixes by people you've never heard of but you assume are top of their game DJ types, etc. which sound nothing like the original track. If you want them all, it'll cost you £13.58 and take you 2 hours of your life to play them all. I know, I've just done it. Anyway, this song is a very good one. It has 'DIVA' (yes, in caps), written all over it and has the cultural significance of, oooh, say, Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' (well, possibly). It's from her 'forthcoming' (not very, if we know her) album 'More Ambient Tales'. Keep up to date via evil necessity MySpace.
We haven't NOT played 'Undisco Me' for over a year now. It's fair to say we fucking love it. However, it's not easy to dance too, which is perhaps the point if ol' Billie wants to be undisco, as you can generally dance to disco music and presumably undisco is the very opposite. Are we going on a bit? Sorry about that. This picture of Billie Ray Martin's leg bleeding should break everything up a bit... there. Lovely.
If you find yourselves stuck on a dance floor with this track, can we suggest swaying from side to side, gently waving your arms around the hip/thigh area, mysteriously, perhaps bringing them up over your head for a bit as the track 'builds' towards the end. Thank you.P.S.
There is a much nicer version of the photo at the start of this rant which has been tarted up with neon colours and that, which we were supposed to use but we've temporarily gone and lost it. Don't panic, it will probably turn up...
Boyz Boyz Boyz
24.04.2007
I'm sure you'll have to agree that there are some very exciting things in the world at large today. Two of those things, you could argue, are;
i. Boys (or in this case, 'Boyz')
ii. The very wonderful beat bomb Princess M.I.A.
What would happen then, we wonder, if the two were to collide in a pop song sort've way? Quite simply, this.
Amazing, isn't it? Radio 1 just gave it an exclusive play tonight as a taster for her new album, 'Kala', now expected in August on XL Records. We're! This! Excited!
M.I.A.space
What a state
23.04.2007
Kate and Nik Hodges are brother and sister pop duo Formatic. They've just released their debut digital EP for Planet Clique Records and we're hoping it's the first in a series of amazing pop records you can dance to. 'State Of Play' comes packed with remixes from the band themselves and MHC (Goldfrapp, Moby, Fischerspooner), plus two new tracks 'Over To You' and 'In One Ear'. Download the 'State Of Play' EP from 7Digital here. Stalk Formatic on Myspace here.
Competition! We've got a copy of Planet Clique's 2CD electro pop bible 'Robopop - The Return' going spare, which features Formatic and a whole host of fantastic acts like Dragonette, Goldfrapp, Matinee Club, Lorraine, The Knife, Temposhark and many, many more! Just send us an email telling us who your favourite robot is (like R2D2 or Dusty Bin) and we'll pick one out randomly, probably. And if you don't win one, it's still available here for cold hard ca$h! And it's a snip at £6.99!
Smaller In More Ways

"Hi! I'm Amelle off of the Sugababes... 'cept I'm not really, I'm just one of Barbie's plastic pals who's outfit has been designed by Amelle off of the Sugababes but it's almost the same thing! I come with a nice pink t-shirt and a little mobile phone so I can ring the other two Sugababes regularly to check if anyone else has left the band yet. You can check out the Heidi and Keisha dolls here. Gotta dash, we've got a new album to record and that Keisha will bitch-slap me if I'm late... See ya on eBay! Byyeeee! x x x ".
This is not just Bassey...
23.04.2007
...this is M&S Bassey! You must've seen the Marks & Spencer's Christmas advert off of the telly last year, right? And Dame Shirley Bassey was belting out a roof-raising rendition of Pink's 'Get The Party Started', all strings and lungs? Well, thank Christ she's added it to her forthcoming album, 'The Living Tree' (the what?!), out May 7th. It's preceded by a new single, the title track, which is out April 23rd and comes with no less than 7 mixes and the video! She just turned 70, you know! Pre-order the single here and listen to tracks from the album here.
Me & My Possums
21.04.2007
Oh! Don't forget to tune into 'The Dame Edna Treatment ' on ITV1 next Saturday night, that's the 28th of April, at 10pm. Sophie Ellis-Bextor is singing her new single 'Me & My Imagination' on it, as well as a stupid duet with Dame Edna herself. I'm only tuning in to see who has the most eye shadow on...
Pre-order the new single and the album, 'Trip The Light Fantastic', both out in May, here.
Pissing Me Off
20.04.2007I have to say I was front of the queue when Scissor Sisters brought us their second album, 'Ta Dah', last year but have been royally pissed off at their pathetic promotion of said album. The single choices have been extremely weak, the videos even weaker and the actual single packages bland and tasteless. One extra-light, skinny 2 track CD single with some dull soulless dance remix for a 'b-side'? An ugly square picture disc which is virtually unplayable? Na-ah, take them back to the chef please. It's simply not acceptable from a band who 3 years ago seemed like a creative whirlwind of colours, sounds and ideas. The tunes are there, tucked away on the album, but they're just not getting the limelight! We should have had 'The Otherside' as the ballad option and 'Paul McCartney' should have been this year's 'Filthy/Gorgeous'...
...But everybody FREEZE. 'Kiss You Off' is almost with us! Could this fabulous video, a campy showcase of the divine Miss Ana Matronic, get the group back in the top 10 where they belong? By God I hope so. It's released (on exactly the same shitty formats previously mentioned) on May 21st. It's a marked improvement but we're watching you, Scissor people... stop pissing us off.
Girls Aloud are just a band
20.04.2007
I've just seen Mr Zane Lowe on MTV2 and he played this... but didn't say what it was! I thought it was only radio presenters that did that? Bah. There wasn't even a title up on the screen as it neared it's end. So, forced to take action, I had to lift myself up off of the couch and walk across the room to the PC and jolly well find out! I should be resting, it's the weekend! Anyway, now I'm totally in the know and my finger is totally on the pulse. It's none other than, er, Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip. Whatever! 'Thou Shalt Always Kill' is like a grime/rap version of Mylo's 'Destroy Rock & Roll'... 'Arctic Monkeys Are Just A Band!'. The track came out on Monday on an already sold out 7" and as a digital EP. Download it from iTunes here. It's gone straight to the top of my playlist, pop pickers!
One, two, three...
13.04.2007
...four, five, six... just counting the number of blogs who thought they would write about the genius that is Feist's splendid new video today. The track's called '1234' and is from her upcoming album 'The Reminder'. Pre-order the album over here. We're not going to describe what happens in the video, that's the beauty of Youtube, just watch it. It's fun and a bit like that Fatboy Slim video for 'Praise You' crossed with a 90's United Colors Of Benetton advert. Well, not really but some how, yes really. Sweet.
Lipstick on your
collarsleeve
13.04.2007It's practically a craze, I tell you. Two great bands, two amazing pop singles, two fabulous sleeves ...stuck on this page with a tenuous link just because I like them! Dragonette's 'I Get Around' is released on April 30th (get it here) and Chungking's 'Love Is Here To Stay' is out one week later on May 7th (get that one here).

Do you really, really love...
12.04.2007
Mancini? Swoon... Excuse us while we fall in love... Mancini are quite possibly the most amazing thing to happen to pop music this year so far. Look at that fur coat! The belt! The strappy shoes! The tight PVC legwear! Etc! And that's before you hear the music... Which is just as bloody tasty. Think a young Debbie Harry flirting with The Rolling Stones during a previously unheard 'pop phase'. Or just click here and make up your own silly comparison. Or watch the scrumptious black and white video below...
Vocalist Iraina has just knocked Sandie Shaw from the top spot on our 'Beautiful Women In Fur Coats' semi-fictional top 5. Please buy their debut single 'Up Country' here. Future style icon alert or what?! I'm polishing a place on my shelf for their debut album as we speak...
Trying to keep you entertained...
10.04.2007...it's the wonderfully pixelated, low quality new video from Lady Sophie Ellis-Bextor! Coming soon (maybe tomorrow if I've got nowt else on), our unfabulous review of tonight's Sugagbabes/Dragonette gig! Or maybe not...
Watch Me
07.04.2007Dragonette are coming...
Easter Bunny
06.04.2007
What a perfect time to stumble upon a band with a name like Bunny Rabbit! It being Easter and all that. Anyway, that's coincidence for you... I was just checking the latest CocoRosie info online (their third album is out on Monday! Another electronic-folk masterpiece!) and since I last bought a CocoRosie album, they've set up their own indie label called Voodoo-Eros and started releasing music by other bands. Bunny Rabbit are one such band! Their Myspace page files them under 'Healing & Easy Listening / Regional Mexican / Melodramatic Popular Song' whatever the hell that all means. But let's just say they're an unsavoury and unholy conglomerate of such genre-screwing acts as Peaches, M.I.A., Uffie and maybe even Tricky (a bit of brooding psychosis going on). They're supporting CocoRosie on their current tour, stopping by London on April 15th, and their debut album dropped last month. One of the tracks on there, 'Dirty Dirt', features the phrase 'motherfucker' about 47 times. Gosh. Buy yourself a copy of Bunny Rabbit's debut album, 'Lovers & Crypts' here. Befriend Bunny Rabbit and listen to samples here. P.S. The album is actually grating on me as I finish this but it is 2am and I'm halfway through a 'Cagney & Lacey' on the Sky+ box so it's probably just me... P.P.S. I don't even know their names yet - that's how fresh this shit is! P.P.P.S. Ooo, just noticed those hot red shoes. Nice...
Good Friday
05.04.2007Or will it be? It could be. I can think of at least one good thing to improve your bank holiday weekend! That's the new Robyn album, which came out Monday. Here's an mpfree to tempt you, which some of you might already have received if you're on her UK mailing list. It's an 'Alternative Version' of 'Konichiwa Bitches', which borrows a little sample from The Cure's 'Close To You'...
Now, I can't always be around to nurse you in this way so to avoid missing out any any other free stuff and news in the future, just get your email address on her list...
Back to the album. It has 14 songs on it, all of them are bloody good, but of particular interest are 'With Every Heartbeat', which sounds like an electro synth ballad sung by a young Kate Bush (fact!) and is her next single and there's also 'Be Mine', another future single, which has got to get her back in the UK singles chart, surely? We certainly hope so. If you want to ensure you have a Good Friday, go into a shop that sells CDs tomorrow after your lie-in and treat yourself to this album. Not HMV, though, who have stuck their horrible security stickers over the front and when you try to peel it off it rips the big sticker on the front in half and looks a right old state. Or don't go anywhere at all and just buy it online. It wont reach you by Friday, of course, but you might have a good Tuesday or Wednesday or something like that. : )
Intruder Alert!
04.04.2007Her Right Royal Highness, Queen of Kook, Lady Bjönkers herself, Björk returns to the musical fold next week with her brand new single 'Earth Intruders'. It's the first taste of her furiously in demand new album, 'Volta' (featuring Timbaland and Antony from Antony & The Johnsons, amongst others) and is available to download exclusively on iTunes from Monday 9th April. At least you'll have something to do when it pisses down this bank holiday, eh? Below is the wonderfully mad artwork for the track, which sees Björk looking like she's just had a fight with Joss Stone (as seen in her new album cover) in a wool shop. The album artwork is just as mental (check out previews here) and has been on just about every blog that there ever was so we wont even go there. You can click on the artwork from Monday to download the track for 79p... a snip! You can actually click it now but as it's not on iTunes just yet, you'll only see her old stuff. We've heard a little sample of the track and all we can say is... fan-fucking-tasic! : )
BananaBabes
01.04.2007We're going to see the Sugababes live in a week (although I'm most looking forward to seeing support act Dragonette!) and it looks like they're selling the t-shirts Pop!Justice made last year! They don't take themselves too seriously then... Anyway, we spent 5 and a half minutes doing our own 1980's version in Paint, as you can see below. Ha.

Waiter! Waiter!
31.03.2007...there's a fly in my tea! Is this the new Siobhan Donaghy album cover? People seem to think so. I like it. Leather upholstery, check. Upside down hair doo, check. Swarm of flies, check. It! Was! Obvious! Anyway, the album 'Ghosts' is floating about the trusty internet if you know where to look. It's stunning. We want 'Sometimes' to be a single if anyone is listening? Hmm, thought not. Pre-order here.

Hello Andrea!
30.03.2007
Quick! Some buggar phone Missus Goldfrapp! That Andrea off of The Corrs has done gone and robbed one of her old backing tracks! Yes, it's all true, Andrea Corr, from The B'ewterfal, B'ewterfal Corrs*, has made a solo record without the rest of the clan. 'Ten Feet High' is produced by Mr Nellee Hooper (Soul II Soul, Bjork, a squillian others) and is released in June. One of the tracks, 'Hello Boys' (oo-er), accidentally tripped and fell onto the internet this weekend and we've just played it. We did however seriously hover our mouse over the 'Save target as' link for several minutes while we wondered if it was actually worth the bother... One expected some trite, delicate, wishy-washy, bank advertisement soundtrack of diluted Corrs-esque nonsense as we've grown to expect from that lot, but by golly - she's trying to do something different! Well, sort've, but it's not totally unpleasant and therefore we can certainly suggest checking it out. It's a bit saucy by all accounts and we've just clicked 'Play' again...
* = This is an Irish accent. It doesn't work written down, does it?
SugaDolls
27.03.2007
It's the Sugababes dolls! Mattel have signed the 'babes up to release a range of fashion dolls for today's aspiring young woman. Ahem. They hit the shops in May. I just love pop star dolls. More of them, please! I think it's a sign of creative insanity. If you can flog a doll of yourself, you've achieved something kinda scary, right? Surely Amelle should come with 2 interchangeable heads so you can mix and match your own personal line up? I'm going to sleep with my SugaDolls next to me on the pillow, for sure. Except I couldn't possibly take them out of their boxes so that might be uncomfortable or potentially hazardous. Gawd love plastic.
