...or is it? I think so! The latest(ish) videos, the odd review, exciting new bands, what's being released, what we're listening to, that good thing off of the telly the other night and who said what about whom. It all might possibly be on this page... by the way, we've got a bit of a new look. Did you notice? Same old shit, just ever so slightly different. Why not send us some news? Carry on...
Pile of hits
31.12.2007And as the year 2007 draws to a close, we reflect on what was ruddy good in the exciting world of popular music, much like every other blog. We've decided the ten albums in the pile of CDs below are the bestest most goodest ones of the last 12 months. Let's have a look...
1. Siouxsie 'Mantary' 2. Rilo Kiley 'Under The Black Light' 3. Dragonette 'Galore' 4. Girls Aloud 'Tangled Up' 5. New Young Pony Club 'Fantastic Playroom' 6. Chungking 'Stay Up Forever' 7. Sarah Nixey 'Sing, Memory' 8. Tracey Thorn 'Out Of The Woods' 9. The Go! Team 'Proof Of Youth' 10. M.I.A. 'Kala'
We also had a few runners up with Roisin Murphy's 'Overpowered', Siobhan Donaghy's 'Ghosts', Feist's 'The Reminder' and Amy Winehouse's 'Back To Black' (even though the latter actually came out in 2006!).
The best tracks of 2007 by my reckoning are (in no particular order); M.I.A. 'Boyz'; Siouxsie 'Into A Swan'; Deborah Harry 'Two Times Blue (Nickel & Dime Mix)'; New Young Pony Club 'The Bomb'; Feist 'My Moon, My Man'; Groove Armada 'Song 4 Mutya'; LCD Soundsystem 'Freak Out/Starry Eyes'; Rihanna 'Shut Up & Drive'; Garbage 'Betcha'; Girls Aloud 'I'm Falling'; Roisin Murphy 'Let Me Know'; Rilo Kiley 'Give A Little Love'; Dragonette 'Black Limousine'; Chungking 'Slow It Down'; Robyn 'With Every Heartbeat' and Sugababes 'My Love Is Pink'.
I do hope some of your own favourite's made it into my lists... see you next year!

So, anyway, I must have taken my finger off the pulse for a micro-second because I only just heard this track today (!) and it turns out it's really quite old. It's been out in Australia for, like, a year, and it came out here in the UK on Data Records a whole month ago! Shame on me... It's obviously not quite been a roaring success so I can't be the only one in the dark. Why not enlighten yourselves and listen to it?! It's by TV Rock Vs Dukes Of Windsor and it's called 'The Others'. I actually thought it was some sort of The Similou remix when I first heard it but it's not, so there you go... There's also a real video for this but it's a.) not that brilliant and b.) I can't get it to stream properly on Youtube but by all means try... Or you can also see it, and click some links to buy it, just over here. Yesterdays news - today!

21.12.2007
Last Christmas, we didn't give you our hearts. Instead, we made you a lovely digital Christmas Album to download called 'Never Mind The Baubles - Here's Christmas!', do you remember? We also sent an extra special email, containing a link to a bonus 'Stocking Filler Edition' album, which went to everyone who said thank you or wished us a Merry Christmas in return, but all the miserable and ungrateful lot reading this wouldn't know anything about that... This year, we're being even more generous and offering you thrice as much music to help soundtrack your seasonal shenanigans. It's 'Never Mind The Baubles - Here's Christmas! v2.0' - the deluxe five disc, 101-track, digitally un-remastered, definitive, special limited edition, collectors box set! Minus the box!!
Yes, it's our Christmas gift to you all! Almost six hours (crikey!) of seasonal tracks, some traditional, some modern, some great, some a bit shit and some down right bizarre! From the tinsel-tastic glam of the 70s classics from the likes of Slade, Mud and Wizzard, to the swinging, easy tunes from Christmas crooners Dean Martin, Nat King Cole and Peggy Lee, to the tacky pop of cheesy acts like Steps, Fast Food Rockers and Whigfield, they're all here! Joining them round the log fire for a mince pie are more recent bands such as Razorlight, Coldplay, Oasis and Girls Aloud and there's even some anti-Christmas, bah-humbuggery from The Long Blondes, Cristina and The Creatures - all collected together in one generously stuffed seasonal package! This special holiday season box set spectacular is available digitally now! So, to celebrate the birth of our lord, Jesus Christ, why not indulge in some festive, illegal downloading? Below are a stupid amount of links, each taking you to a musical winter wonderland of timeless Christmasy music from my own vast collection, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous... There are 101 (!) festive dittys in total, with about 20-ish tracks on each 'disc'! Collect them all! If you want! You could be here all day! I've left it a bit late this year haven't I?! Merry Christmas! Etc!

Black Christmas
03.12.2007
This year's Christmas number one? Yep, probably something God-awful off of 'The X Factor' again... but in an alternative reality, the delightfully bleak, frost-covered tones of our very own Snow Queen, Sarah Nixey, would be crowned the national festive chart topper. Sarah appears on The Black Arts new single, a special yuletide collaboration from Black Box Recorder and Art Brut. That's the video, up there. 'Christmas Number One' is released digitally today and on limited edition Christmas tree-green 7" vinyl on 10th December, via Fantastic Plastic Records. Buy one for all the family here or here! Ho ho ho!

Lucky This Christmas
01.12.2007
Hey there, why so sad? What's that you say? Your 'Lips Are Unhappy'? Scared you'll be 'Lonely This Christmas'? Well don't be sad, because this Christmas you can buy yourself (or a loved one) a nice little bundle of fun in the shape two shiny new mp3's from scrumptious indie pop darlings Lucky Soul! What's more, you'll be doing you bit to make the world a nicer place, as all profits are going to charity. What's even more is that for the ludicrous price of only 40p, you can buy them twice and still have change for some roast chestnuts! Lucky Soul are releasing these two songs together in one digital download bundle in conjunction with Last FM who want to push them to the top of the charts and if that's what they want to do, then who are we to stop them? So if you'd like two tracks for small change and give a little money to those less fortunate than yourselves then nip on over to 7Digital, have a listen and then pre-order. You'll receive your bundle on Monday 17th December... Lovely!

Forget that 'Girl Power' nonsense, Sugababes bring you 'Flower Power' in their new video for their ballad-hoping-for-a-Christmas-number-one single, 'Change'. It's a great video, love it, especially Quiche-shar's Poison Ivy-ish green tears, but part of me wishes they weren't releasing it. It's gonna be a total 'lighter in the air moment' on their tour next year... Pussy Chart Prediction: number two... well, the 'X Factor' winners have owned the shit for years now...

Siouxsie, Roundhouse (05/11/07)
10.11.200And so, earlier in the week, we fled to big, bad London for a date with Siouxsie...
There she is! The venue was packed out and she was on top form.... but I would say that, I love her. She performed nine of the ten tracks on her new album, 'Mantaray', kicking off with the sugary pop fizz of 'They Follow You', as well as a few surprises ('Cish Cash'! Without Basement Jaxx?!) and some old Banshees classics ('Arabian Knights', 'Israel', 'Hong Kong Garden'). A few of the big, sweaty, die-hard punk blokes were most definitely in attendance for the later, I hasten to add. Those early 80s Banshees t-shirts they'd squeezed themselves back into were thread-bare and simply not as absorbent as they used to be, so I ended up a little bit sweaty... and none of it was my own! But, I'm a forgiving type and we were all worshiping at the Siouxsie alter so, y'know... I rose above it. A highlight for me was 'Sea Of Tranquillity', which became a lilting tropical calypso serenade from under the ocean, with the audience swaying to and fro like stunned jelly fish. Or something like that. 'Into A Swan' was also a perfectly executed, electric statement of intent which was accompanied by some serious feathery swan-wing-type dance moves, on and off the stage... "feelings so strong can't be ignored", indeed...
Now, it's no secret that Siouxsie seems to have avoided the ravages of time, like she has taken part in some kind of 'Picture Of Dorian Gray'-esque deal with the Devil, and this evening she cut a striking pose, lithe and predatory, striding along the stage like a wild cat. Her Pam Hogg catsuit was a new creation this evening, silver, black, white and skintight, leaving little to the imagination... but the eye make up and heels clearly stated, 'you wouldn't dare...'. Her leg kicks were fierce, her fingers were spidery and her voice was thick with passion. Oh Siouxsie, you truly have me captivated... sigh. So, anyway, she ended the generous encore with a rendition of The Doors' 'Hello, I Love You', all snaky and whispery... and then she strutted off, deep into the night, leaving a chill in the air... 'til next time. Spotted in the audience were Neil Tennant, Gary Numan and Paul Morley!

Tune In Need?
02.11.2007
Here is the new Spice Girls video. I don't think much of the song...
Some observations, then;
Emma is obviously hiding her post-baby flabby gut under that nice big table!
Mel B hasn't learnt any new dance steps, has she? Same old arm movements going on there!
Mel C really does ham it up, doesn't she? Loose the fringe already!
Victoria has nothing but some slutty 'underwear' on in the middle bit... my children in need don't need to see that, thank you very much, missus!
and finally...
Geri... grabbing every shot like it was her last with her silly little gloves and her lumpy little torso!
Dear me, we're a bit pissed off with this aren't we? Sorry. There's always the new Spice Girls Marks & Spencer TV ad to look forward too...

Quick! There's still time to do something ever so slightly scary this Halloween! For example, devilishly handsome electro sleaze-poppers, Dangerous Muse, have released a new song! You can listen to it! No, they still haven't done an album yet (it's just getting annoying now, isn't it?) but 'Every Day Is Halloween' is a nice enough tune, so thanks very much lads. I can't find it on iTunes UK, which is a bummer, but you can still listen to it here, in between apple-bobbing or during the ad breaks of 'Most Haunted Live', obviously...

Never seen your face...
25.10.2007
...but I know I'm in love! This is Bishi. A legend on the London club scene, Bishi is a singer, multi-instrumentalist & DJ, who has been collaborating with the cream of the underground UK music scene for years now. The well-known face of London’s notorious cult nightclub Kash Point, Bishi has worked with Patrick Wolf, Simon Bookish, Capitol K, Midnight Mike, Zongamin and Riton. Her debut EP, 'BitPop', sold out on the day of release but will soon be reissued (hurrah!). She's finally found the time to capture her unique blend of Eastern-urban folk-pop on her debut album, 'Nights At The Circus', which is about to be released on Gryphon Records. The digital version is out now - click here to hear snippets and purchase! The first single lifted from the album is the electro-psychedelia epic 'Never Seen Your Face' (part of our August compilation!), released on limited edition clear vinyl 7" and two remix-packed CDs earlier this month. The remix package is just as eclectic as Bishi's own exquisite influences and work to date, coming from trendy types Adam Sky (AKA Adamski), R-Complex, Glamorre, The Lovely JonJo, Jet from cult act Trash Fashion and Joe Atari of Bar-Tok. You can order the physical single now over here, as well as digitally here. In this new cultural landscape, Bishi is emerging as an exciting and vibrant artist to watch! Unquote! Head over to BishiSpace now for samples, and if you sign up to her mailing list, you'll get a free mp3! That's nought pence!

24.10.2007New Young Pony Club square up to some kids in their arty farty new video for a re-release of their third single, 'Get Lucky'. Someone give them a bigger budget please and this band will be bloody perfect! Anyway, speaking of arty farty, 'Really Literal', the band's recent Tate Modern collaboration with artist Martin Creed (here), can be found on the B-side of one of the two different 7" singles, available from Monday 29th October here, or digitally here.
Copycat-suit
24.10.2007I'm a huge Siouxsie fan, though you've be forgiven for not knowing this recently as I've barely mentioned her amazing debut solo album, 'Mantaray', which came out last month... but I will be seeing her at The Roundhouse on November 5th, so expect some major thumbs up afterwards. So, yeah, Siouxsie is looking very fit at the moment, sporting some fabulous dress and catsuit designs from her old mate, fashion designer Pam Hogg...
...as has Ms Minogue in her latest video for '2 Hearts'...
...but I know who I'd rather zip up/down! Anyway, Kylie get's plenty of attention so back to Siouxsie. Here's a video of La Sioux performing her cracking new single, 'Here Comes That Day', on 'Transmission' from a few weeks ago...
Siouxsie is also scheduled to appear on the news series of 'Later With Jools Holland' on Friday 2nd of November, where she will be performing three live tracks. You can order the new single over here on 7", 12" and CD formats, or here digitally! Oh, and I must plug my friend Peter's amazing new book, 'Songs From The Edge Of The World - A Chronological Guide To The Songs Of Siouxsie & The Banshees', which is available to order here! Check back soon for that live review... or see you down the front! Visit SiouxSpace.
Everything you'll ever need...
23.10.2007
...it's the new Bodyrox Featuring Luciana video, 'What Planet You On?'! Kinda like Betty Boo's 'Where Are You Baby?' revisited, me thinks, with a dash of 'Flash Gordon' for good measure. We'll just gloss over the fact that her last single, the one with Martijn Ten Velden, was a big hairy flop, although to be honest, that was probably because the release date changed a million times and no one stocked it anyway. Hopefully, someone will buy this from somewhere when it's released on 26th November. Luciana has an album out early next year, which will probably be quite good. HerSpace.

Well, I just got back from glamorous Huddersfield (?!) a few hours ago. I went down to catch Miss Sandra Bernhard, who was a delight. She's 52! I didn't know that 'til the other day. She looked fab, a little lacy number, not much more than a negligée, black stockings and some fabulous Manolo Blahnik killer heels. It was extremely intimate, we were all watching the stage waiting for her to enter and she just appeared to the left of the front row, strutted along, into the isle, walked up and back down, all the while singing away... She sang 'And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going', segued into a monologue about her man up and leaving her. She picked on the guy close to me and attacked the blond girl he was with for taking him from her ("and you have the gall to turn up here today with this blond bitch in a cheap sweater and a tacky cowboy boot!") ...before singing 'The Boy Is Mine' and then she went up onto the stage. She ranted about Nina Simone ("I want my Porgy money!"), Stella McCartney's vegan shoes, US politics and Britney Spears, amongst a myriad of other hot topics. She also sang Guns 'N Roses and Prince. For her encore, she returned dressed in a cheeky police woman outfit, teamed with some silver kinky boots. I was on cloud nine... She's such a star. You'd all have LOVED it. Tickets for her London shows are still on sale BTW, kids... www.sandrabernhard.com

...you the new Roisin Murphy video!
It's Bitchy, Brit!
08.09.2007
Sorry, I'm not feeling the new Britney 'off the rails' Spears single, 'Gimme More'. It leaked last week and I still can't get excited. It could be any old Lisa Scott-Lee singing, as far as I'm concerned. Dull, dull, dull. The only redeeming quality is the opening 2 seconds... "It's Britney, Bitch!". I suggest the powers that be over at Jive HQ release the first 2 seconds as a single in it's own right and go for the shortest ever number one single on downloads alone! And as they most certainly will not, I've done it myself! Click here to download 'Gimme Less'. It's perfect as a ring tone, a message alert or a morning alarm for your mobile phone...

I'm your next Superstar...
01.09.2007
This chap in slap is the divine viKtor. He has been straddling the London club scene since 2003 and his name is synonymous with all things pop, electro and dance. His fashions, make up, slave-like dolly dancers and extravagant stage shows have established viKtor's reputation on an international scale and New York, Paris and Berlin have been his playground. Cool London indie label, Use Your Teeth, released 'Dreamy Eyes', viKtor's debut EP, in 2005, which quickly sold out of it's limited run. 2006 saw a second EP, 'Dance Like No One's Watching', a digital release receiving heavy rotation via MySpace. We like a man in heels here at The International House Of Pussy so we've been gagging for a full length encounter with viKtor for months now and finally, we have an album to play with! 'Dance Like No One's Watching' includes collaborations with producers Tim Benton of cult synth-poppers Baxendale, Xavior (Spanky & Xavior, Dex Dextor) and Richard Torry, of legendary avant-pop group Minty, with Leigh Bowery. With his debut album, viKtor unleashes ten slices of electronic pop perfection. Through unforgettable melody and a healthy dose of humour, 'Dance Like No One’s Watching' cements viKtor's reputation as a leading figure in the UK’s electro pop scene. 'Dance Like No One’s Watching' is in our top 10 recommended albums this month and out now as a digital release, through iTunes here internationally... buy it! MySpace. Website.

Taxi!
28.08.2007We're just loving this new track by one Taxi Doll. The music channels are all over it at the moment and it's quite frankly amazing. Chuck in a few comparisons with Rouge Traders and Blondie, point out the fingerless leather gloves and there you go... you're all over it now, too! Taxi Doll are named after 'the bouncy dolls in the back of taxi cabs'. Personally, I'm more familiar with that bulldog off of the car insurance adverts off the telly. 'Oh yes'. Anyway, here's their website and their MySpace but I'm not sure when 'Waiting' is out... the sticker on my promo CD says September 3rd but that can't be right... can it? Someone should probably start telling people and putting dates on websites and things, or am I just being silly?
