Here's the new video for 'Funplex',
The B-52s' (now minus the apostrophe, logo fans!) new
single and title track from their first album for 16 years!
It's quite odd watching The B-52s back
in action again, isn't it? 16 years ago, I was in a school uniform,
listening to their last album on a cassette walkman as I did my paper round!
It's as if they've been frozen in time (or maybe just airbrushed to
buggery). Anyway, I want to thank my favourite US reader, MrBear1970,
who has taken time out from his busy schedule this week to pick me up a copy
of 'Funplex' from Target, which comes with an exclusive
bonus CD! How kind! Pre-order the UK edition without the extra CD

Here we have the
Sugababes,
flogging their new single 'Denial' on 'Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Take Away',
which was on the telly last night. I don't think the bit where they
disappear behind those big blue sleeves is very good as you really can't see
them very clearly at all... I'm sure that little 'effect' will turn up in their
tour which kicks off... soon (I think). Anyway, the single is out physically
on the 17th of March, the same day as Girls Aloud's, although the digital
release of 'Denial' was this week, and so it charted at number 34 today....
Girls Aloud's
'Can't Speak
French', which you can see them performing live on the BBC's
'Sound' from
yesterday above, isn't out digitally or physically yet. However, it is
already higher in the singles chart than Sugababes
(20), because everyone
has been buying the album version (!). What strange confusing times we live in
eh?

It's just a digital release (sad face). I wish they would relase a real CD!
But if the demand is there, etc. etc., they might put it on a plastic disc
and put it in Woolies and that. Of course, if everyone buys it off of
iTunes and then the powers that be go and decide, "Oh, it's a bit
popular is this! Let's do a real CD!", everyone will already have the
download and might be a mite miffed at having to pay for it again... and
subsequently not bother!
Anyway, 'Featuring Luciana' is quite good, featuring 13
collaborations with the likes of Bodyrox,
Super Mal,
Martijn Ten Velden and Mark Knight
and they're all stuck together in a megamix/mash-up style.

a.) listen to 30 seconds of each song, and b.) buy the whole thing for
£7.99. If you're skint or find a bunch of files worthless, get a few mates
to split the cost and do them all a copy. That is illegal, of course, but
shouldn't the constabulary be out catching the real criminals and all that?
Oh, the 'sleeve' is nice, as you can see... even if
Luciana does look like she might have no knickers on...
and it's all too easy to picture a big cock in her mouth instead of a
Chubba Chupp lollipop.

for the new*Goldfrapp album, 'Seventh Tree', released February 28th...
*By 'new', we do of
course mean the one which accidentally found it's way onto a few million
people's iPods last October and subsequently made it onto several
'end of year' blog lists in 2007 - the year proceeding the one in which it's
actually to be released in. She looks a bit pissed off, no? That's a nice
nod to (internet) piracy, Alison. Well
done you. Pre-order the album

These two rather lovely
young people...
...are
Kings Have Long Arms (AKA
Adrian Flannagan) and
Candie Payne. The former is well known
around the Sheffield music scene and has released several well received
singles and his 2007 debut album, 'I Rock Eye Pop', features
guest appearances from the likes of Phil Oakey,
Andy Rouke and
Mike Joyce. His MySpace also categorises his sound as
'Glam/French Pop/Tropical', which all sounds very exciting indeed.
Candie Payne, the latter, might be more
familiar to you as she's worked with Mark Ronson,
released a few singles and a celebrated debut album, all on Deltasonic
Records, just a few months ago. Together, the pair have made one of the
first great records of 2008! 'Big Umbrella' quickly turns it's
nose up at the wintery month of January and comes on all luv'd-up and
springtimey. Oh yes. It's got that same beautiful pop vibe as
Mint Royale's sublime collaboration with
Lauren Laverne, 'Don't Falter',
from the '90s... It's released on January 7th on Domino Records
and I strongly advise purchasing! The cracking sleeve art alone
is worth the bother....
Oh and it's got trumpets on
it! Lovely. There doesn't seem
to be a video (yet)?! Oooops... but you can hear the track over at
KingsHaveLongArmsSpace. "Don't ever send me home again...".

It's only the bloody music
off of the Lloyds TSB advert that's been on the telly quite a lot!
But there's more... it's been made into a dance 'tune' by the very
ordinary sounding Mark Brown, but to
make it all lovely and that, he's got that nice
Sarah Cracknell from Saint Etienne
to sing on it, in a 'featuring' capacity. You don't see a great
deal of Lady Cracknell in the video but
she does pop up at about 1:41, sanding up and sitting down, sort've. She was
probably very busy that day, re-arranging her wardrobe of feather boa's and
sparkly dresses or summit. Anyhoo, the single, 'The Journey Continues',
has been picked up by the Positiva label and will be out on February
4th, hopefully being a rather large-ish hit soon thereafter!
